Ever wonder who you truly are? I have. In my life, I’ve been a daughter, a sister, a friend, an enemy, a girlfriend, an ex, an employee, a volunteer, a student, a teacher, a wife, a mother, an achiever, and a failure. Those are the labels I’ve worn, but they do not characterize who I truly am! Those labels don’t characterize who you truly are either, because in the core of our being, our identity is not based upon what we do or don’t do. It’s based upon the heart we possess. Not our hearts, mind you, but rather the Savior’s heart. Song of Solomon 4:9 tells us we have stolen His heart. So when we cast aside the labels and aliases that attempt to dictate our identity, and focus instead on our real identity, we discover that who we truly are, is a Heart Stealer. And we’ve stolen the heart of the only One who truly matters. After having learned that my security and sense of self was based upon the heart I had stolen, I determined several years ago to find out as much as possible about my Savior’s heart. What makes His heart beat fast? What does He love (besides you and me)? What is He like? What is He passionate about? My quest to discover the hidden truths within my Savior’s heart, led me to deeper studies of His Word. I wish I could say that studying Scripture was easy for me, but truthfully, it was so intimidating. I wanted to learn more about God’s Word – because His Word is His love letter to us. It is the one manuscript that reveals to us His character, His passions, and His pain. But there was so much to learn, and none of it seemed familiar to me. My difficulties studying the Word led me to write Bible studies that parallel the Word of God to familiar things found in our culture. I doubt the apostle Paul would have ever dreamed his letter to the Galatians would be correlated to the lives of musicians in the 21 st century, but seeing that parallel makes the Bible more familiar to me. I pray it does the same thing for you. And I pray that as you encounter God in His Word, you’ll begin to see His heart – the heart you have stolen, the heart that makes you a Heart Stealer. |
